1 TIMOTHY 4:12

1 Timothy 4:12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

A Sunday school teacher of mine talked about this verse a lot, and at the time I didn't fully grasp the weight of these words. So many people my age just follow the crowd, attend church once a week and call it good; making my way of thinking and acting not the social norm. Like any young gal, I just want to fit in; however, like by best friend has said, it's okay to not go to the party.

We are called to be different, set apart.

So many people, including myself at one point, feel that they have to listen to someone else tell them or interpret what scripture says... which is SO not true. Our society has gotten so far away from reading and studying the Bible on our OWN. I know that I have felt as though I am too young to have an opinion, or share my thoughts; but it is all about leading by example. My little brother comes to mind when I think about this as well. We have both gone through the same struggles of our peers thinking were a little strange because we don't act or talk like them... but I take pride in that fact now. At the time it was hard, but looking back, the things I thought I was "missing out on", I really wasn't missing out on much. Furthermore, I am proud of who I was then, and who I am now; and my friends at the time may not be able to say the same thing.

In high school, my motto was to always do the little things right. While that quote is not Biblical, the idea behind it is. He is always watching, listening, He is always present, and I think we forget that sometimes.

Moral of the story, you are never too young, physically or spiritually to set an example to others. We should all be striving to be like Jesus, and though we obviously know we are far from perfect, that should still be the goal. Do the little things right, be set apart, be someone and make our actions something that our maker would be proud of.
